This litany is directed for use in all Episcopal churches in The Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast on Sunday October 14, 2018. While you may modify the wording and add congregational responses, the body of the litany shall be used as written.
We pray for those recovering from Hurricane Michael: For the people and clergy of our Episcopal family who have experienced loss and damage:
Trinity Church, Apalachicola St. James Church, Port Saint Joe St. John’s the Baptizer Church, Wewahitchka St. Patrick’s, Holy Nativity and St. Andrews Churches, Panama City Grace Church, Panama City Beach St. Thomas by the Sea Church, Laguna Beach St. Luke’s Church, Marianna St. Matthews Church, Chipley Church of the Nativity, Dothan
And we pray for our entire human family affected by Hurricane Michael and all such devastations of life and property;
We pray for calm assurance for those who have been evacuated from their homes;
We pray God’s holy comfort for those living in uncertainty and still awaiting news of loved ones;
We pray for wisdom and strength for first responders, public officials, and relief workers who are working tirelessly for the sake of others; we give thanks for their ministries;
We remember before you especially those whom it would be too easy to forget in this time of our own need; all poor and neglected, the homeless and the destitute, the old and the sick, and those who have none to care for them;
We pray for those for whom this storm stirs up memories of past such traumas;
We pray for the peace of God that passes all understanding to calm the storm of uncertainty, worries and fear. Help us amidst things we do not understand to know by your presence that, among all the changes and chances of this mortal life, we may ever be defended by your gracious and ready help; through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN.
