Wow! What a powerful workshop “The Way of Love: Evangelism 101” was at the May 4, 2019 Discipleship Day, hosted by the welcoming community of St. Jude’s Episcopal Church in Niceville in their beautiful sanctuary and sponsored by the Congregational Enrichment Venture.
Our Evangelism coach was the Rev. Canon Stephanie Spellers, Presiding Bishop Michael Curry's canon for evangelism. Spellers had us dancing in the aisles praising God! She taught us that Evangelism has to be centered on Jesus’ love or it is inauthentic and you have to use words not just deeds! Everyone has a powerful story, we just have to be willing to listen. We even had a chance to share our own story with others and listened to their story. A practical working definition of Episcopal Evangelism is, “We seek, name, and celebrate Jesus’ loving presence in the stories of all people – then invite everyone to MORE.”
I encourage you to contact the Evangelism Task Force and the Rev. Kammy Young to bring this workshop to your congregation and friends. There are lots of resources for you to check out and and download to support your evangelism efforts at our diocesan Evangelism webpage at https://www.diocgc.org/evangelism .
And watch for more on evangelism from the 50th Anniversary Jubilee Celebration Committee as we give you the tools to help you become angel messengers (evangelism) of God’s love. Amen.
